Dan & I, Rory & his family, and Belinda & John all have a tradition of putting on an Orphan Thanksgiving for those who don't have a family to share the holiday with or cannot be with their families. This year the three groups are combining and we'll have some help from our friends, such as Megs & Stuart, Ryan & Michelle, Phil & Joyce, Ron, Sarah, and others I'm sure. All are welcome to join us and even if you do have a place to go, you're more than welcome to join the fun after your other celebrations.
This is a kid friendly event, but won't be overrun with adorable kidlettes.
We will provide:
Turkey Ham Various Tubers (mashed potatoes, candied yams, loaded potatoes, etc.) Gravies and Stuffings Various vegetables (greens, roasted winter veggies, broccoli w/ cheese) Gluten-free dishes Mac & Cheese Potato Salad Deviled Eggs Bread/Rolls Pies and other desserts (Yes, there will be Eggnog Pie!) Dips and some drinks and I'm sure much more...
We would appreciate if you could bring a dish to share, for 8-12 or more. We are looking at around 20 or more for dinner. Updates will be made as RSVPs come in. This can be drinks, appetizers, side dishes, etc. It can be something you just like and want to share or something that is a must have for Thanksgiving for you. If you cannot, we understand- you're still welcome. I repeat, you don't have to bring something to attend. If you want something, but lack the skill to make it, you may want to talk to one of us putting on the event and see if we'd willing to cook it for you. If you want adult beverages, that's fine. BYOB, behave responsibly, and have a designated driver. We have limited crash space.
The Orphan Thanksgiving will be happening at the Clark Home (aka the Clark Zoo) on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, 2008. Doors open at noon. Dinner at four(ish). Hanging out until whenever.
Please RSVP! The earlier, the better! When you RSVP please let us know how many are coming and if you are bringing something and if so, what you’re bringing. Please RSVP here or by emailing me at thesylvan at gmail dot com. You can use the same address for any questions. Also, if you have folding chairs or extra tables you can make available, please let me know. Our numbers might be larger than 20; we have plenty of space, but may need help with tables and seating.
Wherever you spend your Thanksgiving, we hope you have a warm, wonderful time.
