Chances of Success

In Ji Dian Station, your chance of success comes down to the sum of two numbers -- your roll plus your challenge number. The challenge number is the sum of all that stats in your favor minus everything against you (including difficulty of the challenge).

There are ten possible ranges of challenge number from -5 up to +4.

  • -5 = 2% Nigh Impossible
  • -4 = 8% Dangerous
  • -3 = 17% Very Hard
  • -2 = 28% Hard
  • -1 = 42% Below Average
  • 0 = 52% Average
  • 1 = 72% Easy
  • 2 = 83% Very Easy
  • 3 = 91% Trivial
  • 4 = 97% Automatic

The standard skill rolls is attribute + skill against a challenge of 6. If the players is trying to solve an engineering problem where with 3 Smarts and 2 Engineering, then their rolls is 3+2-6 or -1. So the player has a below average, 42% chance of success.

The Dice Calculator is intended to help the players (and the staff as well) in understanding the probability of success.
